  • The leaves are antibiotic, antimalarial, anti-inflammatory, and febrifuge, infusion of the leaves taken to cleanse the blood 

  • Young leaves crushed liquid that treats wounds

  • Leaves are used to treat eye pains 

  • Leaves contain caprylic alcohol

  • Essential oil from the plant, has antibacterial activity 

  • Widely used for wound healing for burns and skin infections

ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS

  • The plant flourishes in disturbed areas like slash and burn, and it suppresses the growth of grass

  • The plant is considered a pest because it spreads rapidly in land use for forestry, pasture, and plantation crops 

  • The positive side is that the plants creates a humus and raises pH levels on very acidic soils 

  • Although in some Asian and African countries it's considered a useful fallow crop

  • The leaves are useful in controlling the weevil and butterfly in sweet potato in black peer and sugar cane
